Carne Asada Tacos

Tacos de carne asada… you make me drool!!

Now that I got that out the way, I can share my recipe :) I would say that the secret to great tacos is on the seasoning and the tortillas you use. Let’s get started!

What do you need? (for 4 tacos)

For the steak/carne:

  • 1/2 pound of Flank steak

  • 1/2 chopped yellow or white onion

  • 1/4 cup of cilantro

  • Salt & pepper

  • 2 garlic cloves (chopped)

For the sauce:

  • 1 avocado (smashed)

  • 1/4 cup of spicy salsa verde (I used Organic Tia Lupita Salsa Verde)

  • 1/2 lime

  • Salt & pepper

  • A drizzle of olive oil

For the toppings:

  • 1/2 cup of chopped cilantro

  • 1/2 cup of chopped yellow or white onion

  • Lime (to taste)

Blue corn tortillas

I found them at WholeFoods but you can use any other type of corn tortilla, just make sure you use corn tortillas. Please DON’T use flour tortillas for tacos, JUST DON’T!

Step by step… pasito a pasito ;)

1) Marinade the steak with salt & pepper, cilantro, garlic and onion and put it in a ziploc bag for at least an hour in the fridge.

2) Make your avocado sauce by mixing the smashed avocado with the salsa verde, lime, olive oil, salt and pepper and set aside.

Chop your cilantro and onions and have them ready on the side to garnish the tacos at the end.

3) Cook your steak in high-heat for about 6 minutes on each side and then set aside on a plate and cover them with aluminum foil for about 5 more minutes (this helps them cook inside without setting your apartment’s fire alarm off) you will get a medium temperature with this, if you like them well done you can cook the steak for longer, this is all about your preference.

Cut the steak in strips and then into small pieces.

4) Warm-up your tortillas on the stove/pan, to then serve the steak in the tortillas, topped with onion, cilantro, and lime.
